National Pit Bull Awareness Day - The Video

I've finally completed the video of all the pictures we took while we were at the National Pit Bull Awareness Day event that Kelly of Wishcuit organized. What did I learn? One, making videos is hard and takes a lot of time! Two, I should let other people do it because I'm far from an expert at it! None the less, here is what I came up with! We had a great time and can't wait for next year!

Please remember Kenn Bell's "Pit Proud: The Movie" that inspired all the pictures with the sign. There are only 14 days left to donate to his movie and help him teach the world the truth about Pit Bulls!

 

One Week Ago Was National Pit Bull Awareness Day!

And I am still feeling inspried by all the wonderful people who came with their Pit Bulls to show their support. Kelly from Wishcuit did a great job getting all of us Pit Bull lovers together! Thanks Kelly! She even made slide show of pictures from the event - check it out! Check her out too. She supports many things, not just Pit Bulls and rescues, but Canine Cancer research too. She's pretty amazing. :)

Mostly I wanted to say that I had a great time and we (ok, mostly my Mom) are working on a video of the event. Please stay tuned so you can see the final project!! For now, here is a picture to hold you over. :)

BlogPaws 2011: Amazing

Wow. In the dance world we have what we refer to as show hangover. Definition: the overwhelming emotions, exhaustion and energy release that one gets after the last night of a big performance, which usually culminates months and months of rehearsals. BlogPaws has given me conference hangover, and I'm still feeling it. Musta been one heck of a party to still feel hungover!

Miah didn't even wait for the conference to be over before she took a purposeful nose dive into what looked like a comfy box. That decision can only be attributed to conference buzz. Good thing because at her age it's the only buzz she's allowed! Well, that and the performance itself.

Community at the Dog Park

We frequent the dog park about 2 miles from our home. In the summer months we are there most mornings before 8am. Twiggy and Onyx love meeting new dogs and running around free in a big space. It's about 6 acres of land with a walking trail around the edge and an inner fenced area for smaller dogs. The view is also amazing. When we are there early enough we often get to watch hot air balloons in the sky, sometimes landing right by the park.

Since our dog park visits tend to be at the same time each morning we run into the same dogs over and over, and while I know most of the dogs' names, I know very few of the people's names. That doesn't stop the daily dog park visit from feeling like a community though. We all smile and say hello. We all give attention to any dog that will take it, and sometimes we walk together, laugh at the goofy dogs and talk mostly about dog stuff.

Wordless Wednesday: Muddy Water is SO Cool!

We love Kurgo!

During my trip to Global Pet Expo I encountered Kurgo, a pet product company for traveling and active dogs, and spent a little time learning about their travel harness. I have always been a proponent of having your dog restrained in the car, within comfort, but I've never found a harness that did not chaff Twiggy, my Greyhound. Some even brush burned her so bad she bled and got scabs we had to treat.

Gordie, one of the two siblings who started Kurgo, was quite convincing that the Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness would NOT chaff Twiggy. Still skeptical I agreed to give it a try when he offered to send me a harness to test. Sometimes I don't think people understand how sensitive the skin of a Greyhound is. When Twiggy broke her leg in August of 2009 it took our Greyhound experienced Vet 3 tries to create a cast that did not rub her skin raw. The first cast actually rubbed through her skin on her toes exposing her tendons. We followed that event with daily trips to the Vet to get a special spray put on her toes to assist the skin to grow back. Needless to say, I have a hard time just believing any harness would not create hot spots on poor, sensitive Twiggy.
